The Assistant Manager - Private Label Packaging role reports to the Private Label Packaging Manager to support the development of product packaging and promotional items that fall under any of the AAP owned brands.  These tasks will be done in complement with the Advance style guides and will prioritize maintaining the integrity of the PL brands.  These responsibilities include Color management, UPC creation, Sourcing of promotional items & Packaging development. This position will work closely with the Merchandising, Legal, Creative Design, and Marketing teams to offer best-in-class programs relative to Advance’s private label brands.  The Assistant Manager- Private Label Packaging must have a willingness to understand consumer packaging, global sourcing, be detail oriented, have strong organizational skills, and the ability to collaborate with internal customers, as well as, external suppliers & printers.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with Category Managers, Sourcing and Marketing Teams to develop and source Non-Commercial items for Promotional purposes
  • Own UPC creation for new and existing private label products including: UPC validation for all new vendors producing private label products and maintain the UPC library for all domestic and direct import private label products
  • Lead color management process with domestic vendors relative to print quality and color consistency for all domestic private label goods; including ink color drawdown & press proofs & production packaging approvals along with quality improvement recommendations
  • Develop creative copy and packaging artwork for both domestic and direct import programs with supplier, Taipei Creative Team & Merchant: review competitive samples, industry trends, legal compliance and new packaging guidelines
  • Monitor packaging issues with in-store private label products and review/present/resolve packaging concerns with plans to improve
  • Partner with Merchandising Analytics Team to provide Dead End Lookup data for late model applications to the Merchants and identify any potential opportunities to be quick to market
  • Direct 3rd party fulfillment vendors relative to re-label projects for programs transitioning to private label brands; including negotiating pricing & timing, PO requisitions and reconciliation
  • Work with Legal on the acquisition of product specimens and dates of first use to maintain private label trademark registrations

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in business or related field;
  • 2-4 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite; including Access & with an emphasis on Excel
  • Understanding of product information management systems, and creative programs like Adobe Illustrator/Photoshop
  • Strong communication, organization and time management skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in graphic design, packaging development and/or copywriting preferred
  • Experience in Merchandising
  • Experience in Marketing
  • Experience working in a retail store
