At Advance Auto Parts (Advance), our communications team plays an important role in ensuring the Advance brand is top-of-mind with customers and viewed as a leader in the automotive aftermarket industry. We are seeking an enthusiastic communications professional to join our team and help drive visibility around a variety of company initiatives, from culture to technology to sustainability and more. This role will focus primarily on our DIY and Pro businesses and requires a high level of strategic thinking and independent decision making. The ideal candidate must be a motivated self-starter with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously. He/she must possess a deep understanding of today’s earned media environment; excellent writing and presentation skills; a strategic and creative mindset; and a demonstrated ability to pitch and place stories through earned media across a variety of outlets and verticals.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Collaborate with DIY, Pro and Independent marketing teams to develop programming that aligns with business priorities and builds the Advance brand
  • Develop PR plans to support key marketing initiatives
  • Build and strengthen relationships with key media
  • Pitch media stories around marketing initiatives
  • Collaborate with digital marketing teams to develop engaging content
  • Develop press materials and messaging
  • Increase visibility of DIY, Pro and Independent key leaders
  • Partner with department leadership on managing the relationship and day-to-day activities of Advance’s PR agency
  • Collaborate on the management of incoming media and interview requests
  • Support crisis and issues communications, as needed
  • Support other communications projects, as needed

  • 5+ years of previous experience in a similar role
  • Deep understanding of earned media landscape and how to work with reporters
  • Strong relationships with national and regional reporters covering a variety of topics Proven results in pitching and securing national and regional earned media coverage
  • Professional demeanor with the ability to represent the company among a variety of stakeholders
  • Excellent writing skills and experience developing press materials and messaging under extremely tight timelines
  • Demonstrated problem solving skills
  • Strong judgment and ability to think strategically and creatively
  • Experience responding to media when issues and crises arise
  • Team player who works well among a diverse team
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment while managing multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Accurate and detail-oriented


  • Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Communications, Public Relations or related field from four-year college or university; and
  • A minimum of 8 years of combined experience in communications, public relations, community relations, or related role, preferably in a corporate environment
