Job Description

The Independent Field Communications Specialist serves as a contributing communicator in the development and distribution of promotional, marketing and operations information to the Independent Store Partners and Independent Sales Team (Account Directors and Account Executives). This role is responsible for working closely with the entire team to produce and distribute the weekly Account Executive News. In addition, the Independent Field Communications Specialist is responsible for posting and updating intranet content on CQ Link, reviewing social media postings and assisting with the Independent Advisory Council.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Serve as a key marketing and communications business partner for the Independent Team; providing guidance and crafting messages, along with recommending the timing and distribution of the communication.
  • Write and edit content for integrated marketing materials used to drive Independent Sales and support Independent Store Partners.
  • Coordinate activities and communication with the Independent Advisory Council.
  • Assist in the management and development of web content on CQ Link. Monitor and archive outdated web content and review social media postings.
  • Develop job aids, playbooks and other marketing tools designed to enhance Independent Store Partners and Sales Team understanding of new programs and initiatives.
  • Design and administer surveys as needed; make recommendations based on the results of surveys to business partners.
  • Work on special projects such as training materials, new sales initiative rollouts or new product introductions.
  • Assist with administrative tasks as assigned and provide support to Division President on an as-needed basis.

  • Highly focused on the customer – ability to listen to the customer and deliver solutions to their needs.
  • Experience with Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, Acrobat, etc.), design skills and video experience a plus.
  • Strong research, writing, editing and proofreading skills.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational and time management skills; ability to multi-task, prioritize work and solve problems.
  • Strong interpersonal and customer service skills; ability to work in a positive manner with business partners inside and outside of the company.
  • Ability to work independently, exercise sound judgment and work cohesively in a team environment.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (PowerPoint, Word, Outlook, SharePoint and Excel).


  • Bachelor’s degree in Communication, English, Marketing or a related field; one year of experience in communication, preferably in the retail industry or relevant internship; or equivalent combination of education and experience
