SUMMARY

The Instructional Designer is responsible for the design and development of learning solutions that enable our 70,000 team members to achieve their performance goals. The Instructional Designer will partner with business leaders to determine training needs, learning outcomes and solutions, use proven instructional methods to design effective, engaging and integrated learning experiences and develop high-quality supporting materials. Of great value are speed to market, empathy-based design principles, and modern design approaches such as microlearning, video, etc.

EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree in Instructional Design, Instructional Technology, Adult Education or related field; 3-5 years’ experience in an Instructional Design, training or a similar role. 
  • Mastery of eLearning tools; Articulate Storyline is required. 
  • Experience with animation tools, such as Vyond, GoAnimate, etc.
  • Experience with rapid-authoring tools, such as Articulate Rise
  • Experience with audio and video editing tools and workflows

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Proven ability to diagnose learning needs for the target audience, empathize with intended learners, and design effective learning solutions (classroom, eLearning, video, etc.) to meet the learners’ needs, as demonstrated by work samples.
  • Successful consulting with business partners and facilitators to collaboratively design effective learning in the business partner’s time zone.
  • Development of high quality materials including eLearning, facilitation materials, participant guides, worksheets, job aids, facilitator manuals, animations, video, and voiceovers, in alignment with Brand requirements and the team’s defined design principles. 
    • All courses with English Closed Captioning or alternative option for learners.
    • All courses 5 minutes or less.
    • All courses evergreen, meaning no content that dates a course and limits its shelf-life.
    • All courses should always have a “pause” button.
    • All courses should be relevant and contextual to the audience.
  • Technical skills related to designing and developing application-related training, including but not limited to simulations, SOPs, job aids, etc.
    • Comfort exploring applications to gain familiarity with a process with only basic guidance.
    • Understanding and experience with the concepts of multiple application environments, user permission sets, agile development, deployment schedules, Citrix, VPN, etc.
    • Applications include (but are not limited to):
      • Exploris, APAL – two point of sale systems in our stores that execute all purchase, return, and customer information transactions.
      • APEX – our inventory system, which is linked to Exploris and APAL, allowing a team member to search, locate, and recommend an appropriate product.
      • MyDay/Reflexis – a store scheduling and communication tool that allows scheduling of Team Member shifts and more.
      • Workday – an HRIS that supports all HR transactions with every applicant and Team Member.
      • Oracle Financials – our ERP system handling all Accounting and Finance processes and reporting.
      • Intelex – our claims reporting system for engaging with our insurance providers for things like accidents and workplace injuries.
  • Problem-solving functionality of all courses in staging environments; resolution of functionality issues or requests. This will be done in collaboration with LMS Administrators, but also requires a deep knowledge of Articulate software.
  • Experience measuring effectiveness of training programs to ensure they meet the goals of the project; use of the Kirkpatrick Model. Effective question-writing practice.
  • Creativity to distill complex ideas into appealing visual graphics and stories. Use of storyboards to communicate those ideas to business stakeholders.
  • Strong project management and boundary-setting skills that ensure timely turnaround of deliverables.
  • Remain informed of latest trends in instructional design and technologies.    
  • Identify and develop new procedures and techniques to improve training and operational effectiveness; create standards for consistent delivery.   
  • Highly motivated, productive, deadline driven, and independent developer, who will also collaborate with other instructional designers (all in Eastern time zone) to develop guidelines and tools to assess and improve course materials.
  • Possess excellent above average English verbal and written communication and presentation skills, and content editing capabilities.
  • Participate in team meetings and peer review sessions (Eastern Time Zone) to enhance course design and delivery.
