The Sr. Inventory Planner is responsible for accurately forecasting and ordering replenishment needs and flowing orders to insure the right quantities are in the right DCs and stores, at the right time while optimizing supply chain efficiencies.  The role will partner with the replenishment departments to optimize import processes and replenishment systems functionality that support direct import programs. This role will be responsible for driving the import ordering process.  This role will also have responsibility for insuring common/best practices are executed for import forecasts and replenishment processes, as well as managing the inventory for new business development.  This position encompasses both ordering replenishment and the appropriate allocation of inventory to the stores.  The Sr. Inventory Planner must have adeptness with current inventory management systems/processes and demonstrate the ability to leverage for maximum efficiency.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Import Demand Forecasting

Create accurate demand forecasts including:

  • New program set up quantities
  • Promotional
  • Basic replenishment
  • Create informed forecasts considering:
  • Planogram transitions
  • Current and expected future inventory positions
  • Test programs
  • Seasonality
  • Known supply chain events (i.e., Chinese New Year)

Replenishment System Allocation Management  

  • Optimize the automated replenishment system parameters based on rate of sales, lead times, and order frequency to ensure meeting our inventory levels and in stock goals.
  • Monitor product flow from domestic and import vendors to distribution centers and to stores; replenish and allocate product as needed.
  • Adhere to OTB spend while achieving planned turnover and revenue growth Planning Analysis Perform analysis and review upcoming promotional forecasts and seasonal activity based on sales, inventory, and in stock expectations (minimum presentation standards).
  • Responsible for managing Non-Working Inventory (Financial NWI and Replenishment NWI).
  • Actively supports the category business plan and line review process with data and analysis, providing recommendations and insights as necessary.
  • Maintain collaborative partnerships with vendors, distribution centers, and stores to ensure the rapid and efficient movement of goods through the supply chain.
  • Communicate with store teams and respond to individual store issues as needed Process Improvement Drive change in company best methods and be a resource for inventory system process enhancements.

Merchant Relationships

  • Develop relationships with merchant team through active involvement in business decisions.
  • Actively participate in Category Management meetings to review status of current inventory and new product introduction. 

Financial Plans and OTB Participation

  • Develop purchase plans for managing inventory.
  • Participate in financial planning and forecasting sessions.

Create Optimal Order Flow

  • Develop order cycles by item, vendor and DC that optimizes flow for greatest supply chain efficiency.
  • Develop forecasted order quantities considering container building and with limited deconsolidation.

Development and training of demand planning best practices

  • Responsible for the development of best practices.
  • Maintain common practices in both front and back room.

New Business Development Inventory Management

  • Coordinate all replenishment set up and maintenance of new business development programs.
  • Recommend inventory actions to optimize program potential or mitigate risk.

Demand forecasting and replenishment expertise:

  • Knowledgeable of the processes techniques and systems utilized in developing accurate demand forecasts.
  • Experience with E3/JDA or other replenishment systems preferred.

 Replenishment and Import Supply Chain Process Expertise:

  • Knowledgeable of the replenishment and overall supply chain business processes.
  • Ability to work with the Business to understand requirements that drive efficiencies in the business, taking into account the entire picture as well as details.
  • Strong ability to influence behaviors across the organization with a commitment to best practices.
  • Financial acumen to forecast financial requirements and inventory impacts.
  • Able to collaborate cross functionally to gather necessary information for the development of accurate forecasts.
  • Minimum Requirements Advanced PC skills and Microsoft Office Demonstrated analytical ability and problem solving skills.
  • Strong attention to detail, planning, and organizational skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong computer skills, systems aptitude, and experience.
  • Retail experience Demonstrated leadership skills.

  • Preferred Requirements Financial analysis and/or forecasting experience Advance Auto Parts systems aptitude and experience.


Bachelor’s Degree in Business, logistics, statistics, economics, finance or similar discipline degree; and  1-3 years demand planning or Replenishment, Inventory, Importing and Supply Chain experience; or Equivalent combination of education and experience.
