Associate Data Scientist

Summary

As an Associate Data Scientist at Advance Auto Parts, you will have an opportunity to disrupt a $150B auto parts industry to bring better and faster solutions to customers. You will be part of an elite data science function helping the company live its mission of “Advancing a World in Motion”. The role will be part of a merit-based organization with a culture of professional growth and development, and emphasis on the latest tools, platforms, and technologies. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following; other duties may be assigned:

  • Design experiments, test hypotheses, and build actionable models to optimize business process (marketing,merchandising ,supply chain, Ecommerce, Finance, HR & Legal)
  • Model complex problems, discovering insights and identifying opportunities using statistical, machine learning, algorithmic, data mining and visualization techniques
  • Work directly with business owners to understand how they use data to drive their business
  • Work directly with data engineers to build automated pipelines and production scale information systems and models
  • Apply a breadth of tools, data sources and analytical techniques to answer a wide range of high-impact business questions and present the insights in concise and effective manner.
  • Develop predictive analytics and machine learning techniques to solve complex problems and drive business decisions
  • Write production level code, which is well-written and explainable

Required Qualifications

  • Experience in data science/analysis/engineering
  • Experience applying Statistics/Data Science/Machine Learning
  • Scripting experience in Python/R or other scripting languages
  • SQL experience
  • Degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Analytics, or related scientific, technical, or engineering field
  • Knowledge of Deep Learning, NLP, or big data analytical tools (e.g., Apache Spark)
  • Experience in a retail (brick and mortar or online) industry
  • Experience using Amazon Web Service

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of SparkML & PySpark
  • Experience handling terabyte size datasets
  • Track record of diving into data to discover hidden patterns
  • Familiarity with using data visualization tools
  • Past and current experience writing and speaking about complex technical concepts to broad audiences in a simplified format

Education and/or Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Operational Research, Statistics, Mathematics or related field required; Master’s preferred and
  • 1-2 years of experience in predictive modeling, data science and analysis
  • Or, equivalent combination of experience and/or education

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • This position will not have supervisory responsibilities.
