Job Description

INTRODUCTION

The Infrastructure Architecture and Engineering group is a component of The Infrastructure Engineering, Operations and Support (iEOS) organization that is part of Advance Auto Part’s Information Technology function. The iEOS team is responsible for all phases of Infrastructure delivery from architecture to daily operations.  iEOS operates at significant scale supporting over 70,000 connected end points and nearly 75,000 team members across North America.  We deliver infrastructure and support services that have a clear impact on Advance Auto Part’s Mission of having a “Passion for Customers. Passion for Yes”. 

THE OPPORTUNITY

Advance Auto Parts-AAP is looking for an Senior Infrastructure Architect to join their IT Infrastructure Architecture and Engineering organization that is responsible for all elements of IT Infrastructure Architecture, from defining the overall enterprise infrastructure architecture to its ongoing governance with the goal of ensuring IT operates as effectively and efficiently as possible. 

The Senior Infrastructure Architect operates within the IT Infrastructure Architecture and Engineering group, providing technical assessment, design and architectural standard services for IT infrastructure teams and the extended enterprise.  Provides technical thought leadership for infrastructure teams in both design and operation of solutions.  Identify necessary infrastructure technologies and services to support requirements while reducing complexity and mitigating impact to the organization.

The Senior Infrastructure Architect is responsible for driving architectural initiatives to support programs and products, defining a shared vision for the technical infrastructure, validating technology assumptions and evaluating alternatives, and designing high performing, secure infrastructure solutions. Additionally, this position fosters strong relationships with Advance Auto Parts’ external partners and internal teams to ensure fit.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Aligning with solutions architects to develop an IT infrastructure strategy that will enable achievement of business goals while reduce lifecycle management costs
  • Assessing current states for various infrastructure components, defining target states, conducting gap analyses, and establishing 3-year technology roadmaps and driving buy-in across complex organization structures to migrate from current to target
  • Creating technical reference model to provide hardware and operating system standards for infrastructure platforms
  • Analyzing technology, industry and market trends and determine their impact to the enterprise
  • Architecting on premise private cloud solution to support hybrid cloud (i.e., AWS, Azure) for technology clusters and patterns
  • Modeling cost/benefit and creating business cases for migration and operations

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent combination of relevant education and experience
  • Highly technical and analytical, possessing 12 or more years of expertise and hands-on technology infrastructure, network, compute, storage, and virtualization experience. Preference is in Windows, AIX, Red Hat Linux, Citrix, Tivoli Storage Manager, Cisco UCS and Hyperflex, IBM, Infinidat and EMC storage, VMware virtualization and Cisco networking equipment.
  • Experience in compute and storage management and cost control mechanisms
  • Exceptional communication/customer facing skills to drive discussions with senior personnel regarding trade-offs, best practices, project management and risk mitigation
  • Demonstrated ability to think strategically about business, product, and technical challenges
  • Proven experience with software development life cycle (SDLC) and agile/iterative methodologies
  • Deep understanding of DevOps principles and toolsets
  • Experience in implementing hyperconverged infrastructure, i.e., Nutanix, VXRail, HyperFlex, etc.
  • Knowledge of cloud reference architectures, cloud environment design, infrastructure configuration management, systems administration and cloud provider best practices
  • Strong track record of implementing cloud (i.e., AWS, Azure, GCP) services in a variety of distributed computing environments

 Preferred Skills & Experiences:

  • Experiencing working in a large retail environment and knowledge of retail systems.
  • Recent experience working with Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) frameworks.
  • Familiarity with industry compliance and security standards including PCI DSS, SOC-1&2, ISO 27001, HIPAA
  • Working knowledge of container (Docker) management tools such as ECS and Kubernetes is a plus.
  • Working knowledge of architectural frameworks, i.e., TOGAF, UML Modeling, ArchiMate Modeling, etc.
