Job Description

Supply Chain Planning Analyst


The Supply Chain Service Analyst is responsible for developing, analyzing, and planning supply chain trends, modelling solutions, and reporting performance. The successful candidate will understand and interpret data, enabling supply chain decision making across this retail business to improve efficiencies and reduce costs.    He/she will provide decision support and recommendations by collecting, analyzing and interpreting data, as well as forecasting business trends to support the overall strategic and operating plans of Advance Auto Parts and its supply chain.  This individual contributor will be an excellent collaborator with our partners in Merchandising, Inventory Planning, and Sales, as well as a critical thinker and great communicator (both written and verbal).  Data-based decision making is key to this role.


  • Develop and manage initiatives and solutions to drive improvements in data and metrics visibility across the supply chain and AAP’s end-to-end business. Optimize data flow.
  • Create, plan, and publish relevant supply chain metrics proposals for streamlining data flows developing scorecards efficiently
  • Provide root cause driver analysis to support decision-making by effectively communicating and translating data and results into business insights and actions. Pareto key drivers for service promise misses.
  • Continuously work to create efficiencies and improvements within databases/procedures/scheduling processes
  • Partner with IT to move developed data capabilities to enterprise solutions as needed
  • Communicate and present recommendations to all levels of staff and management regarding detailed implementation plans for metrics and scorecards, including automation.
  • Evaluate, validate, and automate reports for operations management.  Provide appropriate input into test design to ensure data integrity for investment decision purpose.
  • Work with all Distribution Center locations, corporate and cross functional teams to ensure process changes are successfully implemented.
  • Create documentation / Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) for all process work.


  • Understanding of SQL and relational databases
  • Knowledge of supply chain planning, inventory operations, supplier reliability management, distribution center operations and planning, and transportation operations
  • Knowledge of financial concepts including revenue and expense, P&L, cash flows
  • Strong skills in Microsoft Excel and Access, SQL and Business Objects
  • CSCP certification a plus
  • Some travel (< 10%; North America)


Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Engineering, Mathematics, Business or related area


  • 3+ years of experience in  data analysis (supply chain operations preferred)
