SUMMARY

The Assortment Planning Manager (APM) should be proficient with all AAP inventory management and availability systems with strong technical capabilities in each.  The APM should be capable of communicating with all levels of management and effectively present/develop initiatives and lead departmental projects.  The APM will be task with monitoring each assortment planners open projects, ensuring targets and deadlines are met for each project, as well as leading proactive assortment and availability improvement discussions with planners and Availability Managers. The APM will also work cross-functionally with the process manager, and inventory planning managers.

 ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

 

Assortment Management

  • Provide leadership within the department through planning, organizing, prioritizing, goal setting, decision-making, and communications consistent with corporate values and management guidelines.
  • Collaborate with teams across the organization including Visual Merchandise, Merchandising, Operations, Real Estate, Supply Chain, and Custom Mix to maximize market mix and product availability.
  • Communicate with all areas of the company as the need arises.  Maintain an ongoing dialogue with merchandising, logistics and store operations.  Be prepared to step in and generate dialogue with the field team regarding inventory objectives of the company.
  • Manage and monitor the replenishment process to support the store/distribution networks.  Work with the management team to establish correct guidelines for managing the order exceptions within the business parameters to achieve the business objectives.
  • Identify availability tactics with the Availability Managers to combat intrusion.
  • Monitor logistics issues both internal and external to insure consistent product flow of merchandise inventories to stores/DCs.
  • Work with the management team to ensure that the forecasting process is appropriate to support the Advance supply chain; manage the exception process within the business parameters to achieve the business objectives and strategies
  • Establish and maintain professional business relationships with external and internal vendors and customers in compliance with company policy.
  • Continual process improvements; strategic leadership - anticipation of category life cycles; understanding of overall company strategies and 2-3 year vision.

Financial Management

  • Understand, effectively communicate and advise business partners on the financial impact of decisions around assortment updates, stocking location changes, etc.
  • Inventory Reduction and Reallocation Strategies

Communication / Collaborative Relationships

  • Develop strong relationships with merchant and inventory team through active involvement in business decisions
  • Maintain collaborative partnerships with vendors, distribution centers, and stores to ensure the rapid and efficient movement of goods through the supply chain
  • Train, develop and support new hires on the Market Availability team as well as being a resource for other team’s trainees.
  • Present ideas and directions that lead others to action

Minimum Requirements

  • Experience with E3 modules and supporting software, including AS400/PC, data queries, etc.
  • Demonstrated leadership/management ability
  • Solid knowledge of replenishment, supply chain, and store operating systems
  • Strong analytical skills required; ability to extract, to analyze, graph and interpret data appropriately; ability to develop and communicate inventory findings and recommendations, creating actionable strategies for changes to stores
  • Demonstrated problem solving capabilities; ability to operate in a complex, rapidly changing environment while adhering to tight schedules and budgets
  • Demonstrated ability to balance multiple projects in varying degrees of implementation; ability to work independently, manage in an atmosphere of multiple assignments and shifting priorities
  • Outcome-focused and experienced in project management as a means to plan, track, communicate progress and ensure on time delivery
  • Strong strategic / innovative thinker
  • Strong interpersonal skills, ability to interact effectively with employees at all levels and senior leaders in a collaborative manner; ability to cultivate relationships with key stakeholders across functions in order to achieve business objectives and drive strategic change; proven track record of establishing strong relationships with the field sales and operations and experience in leading complex cross-functional teams

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Bachelor’s degree in Business, Mathematics; and 3-5 years experience in Replenishment/Inventory Management, 7-9 years direct retail experience in a responsible management position (preferably in automated inventory replenishment, store operations, inventory control, or systems related background), with 2-4 years leadership/management experience, 2-4 years experience with E3 and AS400; 1-3 years project management experience preferred; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

This position supervises the Assortment Planners on the Market Availability team.
