SUMMARY:

The Compensation Manager ensures that the compensation programs offered at Advance are competitive within the market. This position is responsible for the design, development and administration of all aspects of compensation programs for exempt and non-exempt Team Members. The Manager provides consultation to business leaders regarding compensation issues and opportunities. The Manager supervises the project work of subordinate Rewards Team staff to successfully meet department objectives.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Evaluate effectiveness of existing compensation through market research, surveys/benchmarking, and trend analysis to ensure competitive compensation programs and best practices
  • Serve as an internal functional expert and a strategic partner on compensation, consulting with other business units regarding compensation opportunities
  • Design various short-term incentive programs, and ensure they are appropriately communicated to participants and accurately administered
  • Develop metrics used to measure effectiveness of compensation programs; provide actionable analysis to business leaders; and recommend improvement opportunities
  • Manage annual salary survey participation and completion. Research market trends and recommend changes to Advance pay structures to ensure a competitive position in the marketplace
  • Assist in developing education programs to increase Team Member appreciation of compensation programs (base pay, short-term incentives, long-term incentives)
  • Manage the annual merit process, including strategic design as well as administration of merit increase programs for exempt and non-exempt Team Members
  • Partner with various business leaders and consultants for ongoing executive compensation review and development of annual proxy statement
  • Manage the design and delivery of long-term incentive programs, including annual and quarterly grants
  • Manage and maintain job evaluation process using established evaluation systems, and partner with HR/Business Leaders to ensure internal equity and external competitiveness

  • Experience using Microsoft Suite, Visio, Word, Excel, Access and other analytical software
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • High degree of business and financial acumen
  • Strong detail orientation coupled with ability to think strategically
  • Previous experience managing medium to large projects
  • Demonstrated ability to work well in a cross-functional team environment
  • Demonstrated ability to present information across multiple levels of leadership (including top management), and respond to questions from managers, Team Members, and the general public
  • Applied statistical experience: ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference; ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Degree in Business Administration or a related field (Master’s degree preferred); and

5-8 years experience designing and administering business-related rewards programs (prior experience in a management or consultant role preferred); or

equivalent combination of education and experience.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

This position has supervisory responsibility for approximately two Team Members, and is responsible for delegation of responsibilities, performance management, mentoring and coaching of direct-reports; and coordination and evaluation of the workgroup.
