Job Description

The DC GENERAL MANAGER (GM) is responsible for leading a world class, automated distribution center. The GM must be a strong leader who can identify and develop talent, have experience in starting up automated facilities, manage a large SKU base, and have experience with state of the art sorting and handling equipment. The General Manager will have overall accountability for approximately 30 managers and up to 500 Team Members.
This is a highly visible position and reports to the Regional Vice President of Supply Chain.
The mission of this position involves supplying auto parts and accessories to the Advance Auto Parts store locations.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following, but not limited to:  

  • Directly responsible and accountable for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of the DC and assigned operations.
  • Lead, coach and develop the team to foster an environment of proactive team member relations and to maintain a highly motivated work force with fully engaged team members.
  • Establish and maintain positive customer relationships with the stores, District Leaders and Operational RVPs.
  • Manage and monitor all safety procedures and ensure that all Team Members foster a safe environment.
  • Develop goals and objectives for the team in order to manage team member performance.
  • Communicate effectively with all Team Members in order to establish clear direction for the shift and/or operation.
  • Manage and communicate production issues with the Department Managers.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • WMS experience.
  • Experience with large SKU base inventory, which includes both high and low velocity items.
  • Experience with state of the art sorting and handling equipment.
  • Experience using equipment (pallet jack, forklift, order picker, reach truck, etc.)
  • Must be able to work flexible shifts such as overtime, weekends, holidays.
  • Must be able to perform all roles in the DC.

EXPERIENCE / EDUCATION:

  • Experience leading a highly automated distribution center is preferred
  • BS/BA education preferred.
  • Seven to ten years directly related senior leadership experience in distribution center management and/or training.
