The focus here is on our customers -- how we make them happy, earn their trust and create loyalty.  The Digital development team is responsible for rapidly developing and deploying solutions that will drive the customer experience and, ultimately, enhance our bottom line as an organization.  This team plays an integral, high-visibility role in working across the company’s Marketing, Digital, and IT organizations.

As the Digital Product Owner for on-site search and personalization technologies, you'll act as the key proxy and advocate for our customers and other stakeholders in delivering AAP’s B2C digital products to market. You will be responsible for developing the product strategies, roadmaps and specifications for the whole lifecycle, as we get better and better at delighting our customers. Specifically, you will be responsible for the on-site search engine algorithm, product campaigns and general merchandising tools. Additionally, this role will include the management of AAP’s personalization and recommendation tools, including both third-party solutions (e.g. Certona) and in-house platforms.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • The candidate will be driven to learn and understand our business here at AAP: know the market and the competition; find knowledge in the data and internalize feedback; and ask the right questions.  Ultimately, be a truly great advocate for our customers, being an expert on the demands and needs.
    • This role will be effective at molding initiatives from the abstract/conversation phase into epics that are tied to business goals, and comprised of clear, actionable user stories.  Know how to take ownership of new products as they enter the pipeline, i.e. how to stand up a project in Agile fashion as the PO.
    • Excel at managing and prioritizing your product backlogs, including (sometimes especially) when the right answer is “No”.  In an enterprise at this scale, having so many stakeholders and priorities, “No” isn’t always sometimes.
    • This role is capable of managing whole, large-scale products, including those which may subdivide into smaller individual products or projects.
    • This role partners with Scrum Masters, Project Managers and Development teams. 
    • The ideal candidate will be experienced with and embrace Agile.  AAP is maturing as an Agile organization, and Team Digital is in the vanguard of that culture change, which makes this is a leadership role with respect to that crucial trajectory.  AAP seeks leaders and evangelists for true product-driven Agile culture, across our enterprise.
    • Develop and execute tactical plans.  Product lifecycle management from initial concept to end-of-life, across all products/product lines.  This is an organizational transformation.  It is crucial to understand where we are coming from, where we are now, and where we're headed.
    • Work closely with business-side teams in delivering products to market, retaining ownership as we gauge effectiveness, customer satisfaction and overall success.
    • The ideal candidate needs to be an effective communicator on behalf of your products – written and verbal, formal and informal – from your direct teammates all the way up to the CEO. 


    • Three-years-plus experience in digital project / product management, specifically in the web technology space.  Deep experience in the B2C e-commerce space will be strongly preferred, particularly at enterprise scale.
    • Experience specific to the automotive aftermarket (or a similar field) will be ideal, but the right individual is far more important.  If you're the right fit, we expect that learning the space is something you’ll look forward to anyway.
    • Demonstrated experience with Agile/Scrum methodologies.  This position requires leadership in this area.
    • A demonstrated high degree of Web/technology literacy.  You won’t be expected to do a developer’s job, but you should be able understand and communicate in order to collaborate.  You should have a broad-strokes grasp of how DevOps, CI/CD, full-stack, etc. work together as the building blocks of Agile development.
    • Analytical skills and mindset.  Ability to synthesize and evaluate complex solutions to complex problems, in context with this challenging environment.
    • A strong work ethic.  There is an enormous amount of work to do here at AAP, and we need to function well under pressure in a collaborative environment.
    • Strong overall sensibilities with respect to design, look and feel, etc.  While you'll work with specialists for UI/UX and design, you’re the PO, and you should have a vision.
    • Experience with project/product management tools.  Specifically Jira, Confluence, and Atlassian tools in general, will be a plus.
    • Demonstrated communication skills, both written and verbal, and the ability to work across business and IT / development teams.  With this goes the enthusiasm for mastering the language of the automotive space, which is culture- and enthusiast-driven.


    • Bachelor’s degree and/or equivalent experience.
    • 4-6+ years of overall experience in product and/or project management.
    • Credentials including Certified Product Owner, Scrum Master, PMP, AWS and other cloud certifications, etc. are all pluses.
