Job Description

We are an Equal Opportunity Employer and do not discriminate against any employee or applicant for employment because of race, color, sex, age national origin, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity, status as a veteran and basis of disability or any other federal, state or local protected class.:

Join the AAP Digital Products Team and start reimagining the future of automotive retail. Disrupt the way consumers buy auto parts and join a fast growing e-commerce team to take on the industry’s biggest challengers. We are charged with executing AAP's top-down commitment to Digital expansion.

The focus here is on our customers -- how we make them happy, earn their trust and create loyalty. The Digital development team is responsible for rapidly developing and deploying solutions that will drive the customer experience and, ultimately, enhance our bottom line as an organization. This team plays an integral, high visibility role in working across the company’s Marketing, Digital, and IT organizations.

As Director of Product, you'll be the key individual in coordinating and tying together our product initiatives. You will be the primary proxy and advocate for our customers and internal stakeholders alike. You will be a key player in developing product strategy, product roadmaps and specification of product requirements.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Master AAP's business and market space, and own the product roadmap. Identify opportunities, both for new initiatives and for improving those that exist, on an ongoing basis. Define initiatives, develop product briefs, and be prepared to deliver them to the executive layer of the company.
  • Be very effective at molding initiatives into epics that are tied to business goals, and comprised of clear, actionable user stories.
  • Participate in driving AAP recruiting efforts on the product side. Help to grow the product and project management talent base: define requirements, identify our needs, interview, onboard, mentor. Take ownership of the overall shape and dynamics of product and PMO priorities across the enterprise.
  • Act as liaison between teams in order to realize product concepts and bring them to market. Work with internal clients to define and refine product requirements.
  • Develop and execute tactical plans. Product lifecycle management from initial concept to end-of-life, across all products/product lines. This is an organizational transformation. It is crucial to understand what we are transforming from, and where we are now, not just where we're headed.
  • Be responsible for overall product planning, including creation and delivery of planning documents. Work with individual product managers to ensure that planning documents address growth objectives including revenue, market share, ROI and profitability across all channels.
  • Work closely with business-side teams in taking products to market, retaining ownership as we gauge effectiveness, customer satisfaction and overall success.
  • Participate in the prioritization and distribution of workloads across individual product managers and product teams.
  • There is an enormous amount of work to do here, and members of the leadership team must lead by example. We need to not only function well under pressure but to work as a collborative leadership team.
  • While you'll be working with specialists for UI, UX and de-sign, we should all bring a sense of balance, layout, palette, etc.

Job Requirements

  • A minimum of eight years' experience in project / product management, specifically in the web technology space. Substantial e-commerce experience is a must.
  • Experience in the automotive (or a similar) field would be ideal, but the right individual is far more important. If you're the right fit, you can't wait to start learning the space anyway.
  • Demonstrated experience with Agile/Scrum methodologies. This position requires leadership in this area.
  • Analytical skills and mindset. Ability to synthesize and evaluate complex solutions to complex problems, in context with this challenging environment.
  • Experience with project/product management tools.  Specifically Jira, Confluence, and At-lassian tools in general, will be a plus.
  • Demonstrated communication skills, both written and verbal, and the ability to work across business and IT / development teams.  With this goes the enthusiasm for mastering the language of the automotive space, which is culture and enthusiast driven, and we all need to speak the language.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree and/or equivalent experience.
  •  8-10+ years of overall experience in product and/or project management.
  • Credentials including Scrummaster, PMP, etc. are a plus.
