SUMMARY

This position is responsible for providing oversight and management of team members that support the Sales Area Merchandising teams in all functional areas of pricing.  Successfully integrating product categories into the price/promotion optimization system will be key to this position.  This position will oversee the approval and delivery of retail price changes and promotional price files and requires interaction with many departments and people with varying levels of responsibility in order to accomplish tasks and projects.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

 

Hire, train and develop a team of Strategic Pricing Analysts who will interact with the system to maintain demand groups and product relationships, run price optimization scenarios, develop pricing proposals, execute approved retail changes and provide post-event analysis. Pricing Analysts will be trained to understand the products and categories of the Sales Area Merchandising teams and how to confidently utilize the system to support the pricing needs of the merchants. 

Manage an Ad Pricing Administrator who keys all promotions into the system.  The Ad Pricing Administrator will also validate pricing accuracy on ad proofs and ensure that all ad pricing is delivered to the stores accurately and in a timely manner.

Maintain an internal team of Comparison Shoppers in Puerto Rico that gather competitive pricing data through the use of the internet and phone calls to local competitors.  Direct supervision, scheduling and training will be provided supported by a Competitive Pricing Specialist assigned to the team. 

Utilize the support of an additional Competitive Pricing Specialist who will work with merchandising vendors to gather and validate Sales Area competitive pricing information that will be input to the optimization system.

Become a 'super user' of the price/promotion optimization system, becoming proficient in all functions and processes within the system and gaining a basic understanding of the methodology and science used to develop sales/margin forecasts.  Achieve the highest level of certification offered for the pricing system and stay apprised of all updates.

Work closely with Product Directors and Merchandise Managers to understand pricing strategies for AAP stateside and offshore stores in order to train Pricing Analysts to run precise pricing scenarios. Present pricing proposals that support and meet corporate and category sales and gross margin objectives to Product Directors and Merchandising leadership for approval.

Work closely and maintain contact with 3rd party pricing system vendor, Corporate Systems and Store Systems Development to ensure the system operates as expected and pricing is processed accurately at the store level.  Direct these teams to resolve data processing issues in a timely manner.  Escalate issues through the chain of command to resolve issues with extreme urgency.

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Exhibit leadership skills in working with direct reports, supervisors and peers such as Pricing Managers, Merchandise Managers and Product Directors.  Delegate tasks in such a manner that resources are allocated most efficiently and all projects are completed on time.

Attend and participate in meetings as a management representative of Retail Pricing.  Active involvement in projects and updates that affect pricing will be necessary to support the best interests of the Sales Area Merchandising team, our stores and customers.  Report and follow up as necessary with the Director of Retail Pricing on action items and issues that arise in such meetings.

Occasional travel may be necessary with the expectation that Advance Auto Parts will be represented with the highest level of decorum and professionalism and that costs will be managed efficiently.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university with an emphasis on Business Administration, Computer Information Systems, Economics, Math or Statistics and at least 5 years proven management experience.  Strong skills in MS Office products and AS400 are required; specific experience in MS Access and SQL experience preferred.  Project management skills are a plus.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, and professional journals.  Ability to write reports and business correspondence.  Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from direct reports, stores, managers and corporate leadership both in individual and group environments.

 

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, gross margin, balance of sales and percentages.  Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra, geometry and statistics.

 

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.  Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.  Must demonstrate business acumen in understanding and applying corporate and category  goals, strategies and initiatives.

 

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

Ability to achieve basic user, advanced user and administrator certifications on price and promotion optimization systems within 12 months of hire date.  Must possess a current driver's license.
