The Senior Project Manager, Supply Chain Service is responsible for identifying and driving improvements to Advance Auto Parts’ supply chain service to our stores and customers.  The successful candidate in this role will use their analytical skills, knowledge of upstream inventory strategy, distribution operations, logistics, and system logic to develop, plan and implement improvements to supply chain service. The successful candidate will understand and interpret data, enabling supply chain decision making across this retail business to improve efficiencies and reduce costs.    This individual contributor will be an excellent collaborator with our partners in Merchandising, Inventory Planning, and Sales, and also within the supply chain for distribution center operations and logistics.  He/she will be  a critical thinker, a great communicator (both written and verbal), and an organized project management professional.   Data-based decision making is one of the key success factors in this role, as well as accountability and a sense of urgency.


  • Develop and manage initiatives and solutions to drive improvements to supply chain service performance, including DC Order Fill, PDQ (parts delivered quickly) Fill, on-time delivery, and accuracy, to improve and maintain acceptable Store in-stock rates.
  • Utilize project management methodology and Lean Six Sigma DMAICs to initiate, drive, and complete projects and deliver service improvements across AAP’s supply chain network
  • Ensure project results are sustainable by having a plan to maintain improvements over time
  • Perform return on investment (ROI) analysis to determine viability and priority of supply chain projects
  • Provide root cause analysis and drive action plans while effectively communicating and translating data and results into business insights and actions. Pareto key drivers for service promise misses.
  • Continuously work to create efficiencies and improvements with processes and procedures
  • Partner with IT to understand system logic and optimize operational improvements
  • Communicate and present recommendations to all levels of staff and management regarding detailed project plans
  • Evaluate, validate, and automate processes and reports for operations management.  Provide appropriate input into test design to ensure data integrity for investment decision purpose.
  • Work with all Distribution Center locations, corporate and cross functional teams to ensure process changes are successfully implemented.
  • Create documentation / Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) for all process work.

  • Knowledge of supply chain planning, inventory operations, supplier reliability management, distribution center operations and planning, and transportation operations
  • Experience conducting SWOT and gap analysis and in building business cases
  • Understanding of supply chain metrics including fill rates, service levels, on-time delivery, CSAT and their drivers
  • Knowledge of financial concepts including revenue and expense, P&L, cash flows
  • Strong skills in Microsoft Excel and Access, SQL and Business Objects
  • CSCP and/or PMP certification preferred
  • Some travel (10%; North America)


Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Engineering, Mathematics, Business or related area


  • 5+ years experience in supply chain operations and analysis
  • Retail environment preferred
