The Merchandising Operations Analyst provides support for the current integrated operating model (IOM), as well as support for new initiatives. The Merchandising Op’s Analyst will provide analytical support to identify and maximize product performance; evaluate retail space performance, analyze customer shopping behaviors, historical trends, etc. while assisting with program development that supports corporate timelines. The analyst works cross-functionally with Category Managers, Inventory Analysts and Merchandise Planning to identify opportunities and make recommendations to improve return on space at a macro (category/store) and micro (sku/shelf) level. The analyst will document business processes, and provide business partners with accurate and timely data, reports and/or analysis to help them make better business decisions. The Merchandising Op’s Analyst is the space allocation subject matter expert to retail leadership by providing consultation and analysis through the sharing of financial data.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

40%  Reporting and Analysis

Partner with IOM teams to document, consolidate and standardize space allocation reporting

Develop relationships with Merchant, Inventory and Pricing Teams through active involvement in business decisions

Develop a comprehensive deck of key performance indicators and financial information they will use to benchmark planograms and stores, both against themselves and other similar locations.

Monitor store category sales, planogram and floor plan changes, identifying trends, monitoring the timing and scope of seasonal planogram changes to support sales goals.

35%  Reporting, Analysis, Scorecard and Presentation Development

Partner with leadership to prepare various projects, reports, analysis, presentations, and scorecards

Partner with business team members to both develop and conduct user training for the use of Business Intelligence systems, financial concepts and performance metrics

Develop business requirements for “Best in Class” balanced reporting and ad-hoc analysis tools, which include metrics and drivers used to understand business results and meet both financial and business commitments as defined by leadership

Produce reporting packages for senior leadership

15%  System Data Testing and Project Management

Lead user acceptance testing during implementation of system enhancements and implementation of new systems and/or system capabilities

Partner with Merchandising Systems Business Analyst and IT to translate business requirements into technical requirements for implementation of reporting and ad-hoc analysis tools

Support system activities including, but not limited to, end user support, data validation and reconciliation

Lead small to medium cross-functional and cross-departmental projects with medium complexity and cross-system impacts

10%  Business Process Development and Enhancement

Participate in development and implementation of Data Governance processes

Effectively communicate and translate results into business insights and actions

Identify and establish metrics and drivers to help leaders understand business results and meet both financial and business commitments

Job Requirements

  • Experienced in the use of MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, MS Access, VBA and Visio

  • Advanced Knowledge of SQL and relational databases

  • Experience with JDA Space and Floor Planning Systems or other Space Management software.

  • Business Intelligence/Data Warehouse Experience

  • Knowledge of general replenishment and merchandising systems

  • Knowledge of retail business processes and store environment

  • A solid understanding of financial measurement concepts and practices

  • Experience with financial planning applications and/or processes

  • Project management/process improvement experience

  • Organization, creative problem-solving, and a continuous improvement mentality

  • Attention to detail 

  • Strong analytical and time management skills

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills; ability to present information and interact effectively across all levels of the organization; ability to cultivate relationships across functions to achieve business objectives and drive strategic change

    EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

    Bachelor’s degree and 1-3 years’ experience in relevant fields (retail preferred); or equivalent combination of education and experience
