SUMMARY: This position is a combination of quality evaluation and problem solving.  The candidate needs to be an advocate for product quality and process improvement.  The Quality Engineer is responsible for investigating and solving product problems, and managing reporting on all products categories.  This includes driving solutions to improve the quality as measured by customer returns and warranty rates.  Once products are bought and in the system, the Quality Engineer will monitor sales and warranty rates, and perform root cause analysis to solve problems and provide solutions.

 ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Monitor product sales and returns to proactively identify warranty problems that need attention.
    • Research store reported warranty information and develop specific solutions for actionable change.
    • Be the source of feedback to the Merchants on the quality front for domestically and globally sourced products.
  • Proactively seek out product warranty rates higher than category average, conduct research, implement changes and show a reduction in warranty rate by product/category.
    • Product improvements
    • Packaging improvements
    • Catalog/application changes
    • Instruction changes
  • Conduct investigations on store and customer reported quality issues assigned by APEX and EXPLORIS catalog systems.
  • Investigate and report on assigned warrant/damage claims.
    • Document quality issues to support claims by the vendors.
    • Develop solutions to minimize future problems or reduce costs.
  • Seek engineering solutions to reduce customer returns and keep product sold.
  • Monitor product testing by vendors and be able to interpret results and provide recommendations.
    • Assist in development of product testing protocols.
  • Effectively communicate with the Taipei Merchant and Quality Teams.
  • Prepare and communicate to the field product Call Backs and Defect Outs as necessary.
  • Learn and become proficient on the categories under your control and various activities that impact these categories.

Job Requirements

  • STRONG automotive knowledge.  The ideal candidate has performed complex mechanical/electrical repairs on car and light truck platforms to include modifying or enhancing OE designed systems.  Must be comfortable communicating with automotive repairs shops (Service Advisors and Repair Technicians) to obtain knowledge on specific part defects.

  • Knowledge of aftermarket automotive products

  • Ability to drive aggressive implementation plans and schedules

  • Ability to use supply chain knowledge to deliver enhanced business results

    EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

    Degree in Mechanical Engineering.

    Two years of related experience in quality improvement.
