SUMMARY
The Senior Accountant will be responsible for managing multiple priorities and proactively identify potential issues and risks in a dynamic face-paced environment.  The candidate will work closely with the Senior Manager of Accounting and Transformation to manage the day to day operations of the Accounting Team, including the monthly, quarterly and annual close processes to help meet both the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and internal management deadlines. The Senior Accountant will help coordinate team efforts on transformative related projects, implement new processes relating to technical accounting pronouncements and Sarbanes Oxley (SOX) requirements. The role requires in-depth experience, knowledge, and proven skills in accounting, and the ability to act as a resource and assist others in the broader accounting group, including other departments.  The candidate must be able to train, mentor and develop multiple team members.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Execute on the daily accounting activities required to maintain accurate general and sub ledgers.

  • Prepare and review schedules on a period basis relating to balance sheet and income statement accounts, including reconciliations of those accounts.

  • Maintain organized set of detailed records and workpapers to support monthly balances.

  • Prepare journal entries on a period basis according to established schedule, including supporting documentation. Follow up with appropriate individuals for any needed updates on journal entries.

  • Obtain comprehensive understanding of daily activities of the department and provide assistance when needed to ensure daily and period goals/deadlines are met.

  • Coordinate and ensure a timely monthly, quarterly and annual closing activities.

  • Support SOX testing, internal and external audits.

  • Meet deadlines for internal and external reporting deliverables.

  • Resolve semi-complex accounting issues and/or assist the external reporting group in resolving issues pertaining to Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).

  • Support budget and forecasting activities with the FP&A Team.

  • Collaborate with the other department team members to support overall department goals and objectives.

  • Assist the Senior Manager of Accounting and Transformation with learning and seeking efficiencies in current accounting processes, including documenting new processes.

  • Assist Technical Accounting team with white papers and memorandums on new and/or updated technical accounting pronouncements.

  • Prepare or assist on presentation of training efforts related to accounting processes to team members across multiple departments.

  • Assist in the development of process improvement and standardization projects by identifying potential risk areas and providing recommended improvements.

  • Ability to analyze data, draw conclusions, interpret results, and make recommendations on daily tasks or ad hoc projects.

  • Train, mentor and develop junior team members.

  • Work with respective direct report to establish professional goals and objectives annually in order to enhance ones professional development.

  • Consistently exercise independent, objective judgment and discretion in matters of significance.

  • Perform other related duties and responsibilities as assigned.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or equivalent required

  • 4-6 years of experience in accounting

  • CPA certification preferred

  • Public accounting experience preferred

  • Prior experience with business process enhancement, and knowledge of MS Office Suite, PeopleSoft, Oracle, JD Edwards, International Business Systems (IBS) or Iptor, Hyperion, and AS/400 are a plus.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication, organizational and analytical skills required.

  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects and deadlines.

  • Flexible hours may be required around reporting deadlines.

  • Effective presentation of information in a one-on-one and/or small group situations with top management, external department heads and other employees.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
No direct supervisory responsibilities, however, the Senior Accountant will be asked to lead small cross-functional teams to complete certain projects as needed.  Responsibilities may include training, planning, assigning/directing work and resolving problems.
