INTRODUCTION

The Infrastructure Engineering, Operations and Support (iEOS) organization is a component of Advance Auto Part’s Information Technology function. This team is responsible for all phases of Infrastructure delivery from architecture to daily operations.  iEOS operates at significant scale supporting over 70,000 connected end points and nearly 75,000 team members across North America.  We deliver infrastructure and support services that have a clear impact on Advance Auto Part’s Mission of having a “Passion for Customers. THE OPPORTUNITY

The Senior Manager IT - Store Infrastructure Architecture and Engineering is a member of the iEOS Team with overall accountability for delivering store infrastructure and infrastructure services to 5,000 retail locations, supporting 70,000 Team Members who directly serve our customers. This individual will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of store infrastructure, architecture and engineering. The Senior Manager will play a crucial role in developing the next generation store architecture to support a more robust customer experience, including point of sale hardware, in-store networking, wi-fi, mobile, wide area network, software defined networking and voice services.

This position is responsible for championing and driving organizational and technological change with the goal of continuously improving Advance Auto Parts’ ability to serve our customers better than anyone else.  As a result, the incumbent in this position will continuously challenge the status quo and drive for actionable insights to improve store infrastructure availability, engineering standards, infrastructure service delivery, and operational excellence.

This position is responsible for building and maintaining strong relationships with the appropriate Business Operations Teams, Support Leads, Application Development Leads, IT Leadership Teams and their direct reports. This position is the escalation point for issues which cannot be resolved by the members operating within the Second Level Support Team.

This position has direct management responsibility for a number of individual contributors and must maintain a high-quality resource plan. In addition, this position will have responsibility for maintaining an effective labor sourcing strategy including, where appropriate, off-shoring. This position is responsible for developing and maintaining strong senior level relationships with Advance Auto Parts’ external partners and ensures that Advance receives the maximum value from infrastructure investments.

 

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Attract and retain top talent; drive to make Advance Auto Parts an employer of choice. Maintain a deliberate labor strategy that ensures we have the right skill available, at the right time and at the right cost structure.
  • Manage staff of the Store Infrastructure Engineering team, including employee motivation, hiring and terminating, writing reviews, preparing performance evaluations and individual development plans. Must instill an extreme sense of urgency and passion for operational excellence.
  • Ensure PCI compliance by developing engineering standards and processes that meet or exceed PCI requirements. Must stay current with PCI standards and develop plans and roadmaps to ensure store infrastructure is compliant. Participate in yearly PCI assessments, including qualified security assessor interviews.
  • Provide thought leadership and help develop a vision/roadmap for the store of the future.
  • Stay current with technology trends that may influence or impact the retail environment.
  • Develop and execute aggressive continuous improvement plans including the development of tools and applications that enable our stores and support teams to quickly resolve issues allowing our team to serve our customers.
  • Responsible for selection/certification, lifecycle, availability, security and compliance, and level 3 support for over 70,000 network attached devices across 5,000 locations.
  • Expert knowledge of retail technology infrastructure, client/server (Windows Server 2012 R2, Windows 7, Windows 10, Linux), Network Switching, Wireless, Point of Sale Peripherals, WAN/SDWAN, VOIP
  • Expert understanding of Microsoft Technologies, Active Directory, SCCM, .NET, Azure/O365, Operating Systems, SharePoint, Microsoft Teams.
  • Partners closely with Application Development and Store Operations to create and implement an automation strategy with a strong focus on driving system availability through self-healing and proactive applications/BOTS.
  • Methodical approach to problem solving with the ability to organize and lead cross functional teams during major incidents.

  •  Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent combination of relevant education and experience
  • Minimum of 10 years direct IT leadership experience, 5 of which must be in engineering leadership

  • Expert understanding of operating systems (Microsoft, Linux)

  • Direct experience engineering for and management of a large multi-site environment

  • Demonstrated change management leadership

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • This position will supervise the Store Infrastructure Engineering team within the iEOS organization for Advance.
