Job Description

The role of the Senior Merchandising Specialist (Dynacoat Program) is the critical link between the Advance Auto Parts/CARQUEST Stores, CARQUEST Independent Stores and AkzoNobel.  Fundamental to this role is anticipating and understanding the Store’s needs, and liaising and advocating within AAP to manage, communicate, and satisfy those needs. The Senior Merchandising Specialist for Dynacoat is responsible for working with Stores to build their capability to meet and exceed their growth objectives, while driving revenue by developing mutual action plans to grow new and existing end-user business.  The Dynacoat Senior Merchandising Specialist reports to the Director of Category Management – Professional PBE.

Key Areas of Responsibility – Overview

Responsible for the day to day management of the Dynacoat Program:

Customer Relationship Management – Develop and build relationships amongst the Regional Vice Presidents, District Managers, Customer Sales Managers, PBE Sales & Tech Team, Store Team Members, the Independent Sales Team and Independent Store Team Members. 

Existing Business Conversions – Work with the Store Leadership Team, Independent Sales and Customer Service Center (CSC) leadership to ensure existing non-go forward and other competitive paint line business is prioritized in order that our Store’s business is maintained and positioned for sales growth. The objective here is 100% retention of the Store’s paint business.

Strategic Growth Plan – Development with District Managers, Commercial Sales Managers and Commercial Account Managers of a MAP (Mutual Action Plan) process which enables the growth objectives of both AAP and Dynacoat.  This plan should include:

  • Annual growth targets
  • Regional plans
  • Organizational development objectives
  • Training and learning objectives
  • Pipeline planning and development
  • SWAT Team coordination with Dynacoat Key Account Manager
  • Planning of store conversions and new installs
  • Market prioritization
  • New markets and a streamlined approval process for Dynacoat
  • Establishing changeover budgets and all maintaining all related documentation
  • Partner with Accounting to make sure inventory credits are applied properly

Strategic Sales Integration – Integrate activities of the Dynacoat SWAT team into a working conversion process with the local Store teams. Ideally, this includes support and development of the Dynacoat sales initiatives.

Regional Coordination – Coordinate activities between AAP/CARQEST Store Team Members and the Dynacoat CAM, to maintain clarity on MAP activity, and alignment between regions.

Alignment – Align with CSC departmental managers to understand processes and procedures while aligning with the Dynacoat processes and support team.

Job Skill and Capability Requirements

The individual will have an undergraduate business degree, 1 to 3 years experience in the automotive industry, automotive paint experience a plus; or the equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience in managing complex projects and detailed record keeping will be strongly considered.
