Join our PIM and Merchandising Systems Team as a Sr. Business Analyst in Raleigh, NC.  This team is responsible for technology strategy and development of Advance’s product information management, merchandising, category management and space management systems.  Our product base is enormous, supporting millions of unique parts in thousands of locations across North America enabling both in-store and eCommerce business models.  Transformation is the focus as we are consolidating systems, disrupting business models and embracing software-as-a-service (SaaS).

The Sr. Business Analyst is the linchpin between successful technology and business teams.  Your primary duties and responsibilities will include:

  • Partner with Business stakeholders , to identify business goals; document current state business/technical processes and data flows; document future state processes and data flows; document gap analysis between current state and future state
  • Understand complex problems and explain the situations to others through both verbal and written communications (e.g. detailed work flow diagrams), as well as assist in generating and choosing solutions to address
  • Apply business knowledge and facilitative expertise to resolve functional issues across one or more areas of the business and across multiple projects
  • Lead information gathering sessions to understand current and potential customer needs
  • Understand and translate business needs into business requirements (user stories and acceptance criteria) and associated activities
  • Ensure that requirement statements are complete, consistent, concise, comprehensible, feasible, traceable, unambiguous, and verifiable, and that they conform to standards. Define quality attributes, external interfaces, constraints, system & technical requirements, and other nonfunctional requirements.
  • Participate in requirements prioritization and assist with managing the product backlog
  • Ensure clarity between business and IT to ensure that IT knows what needs to be built and the business agrees the solution meets the need
  • Work with IT Project Managers and developers to translate business requirements into solutions that meet the needs.
  • Partner with Technical, QA and Business to verify the solution solves business needs and functions as agreed
  • Participate in peer reviews and inspections of requirements documents and of work products derived from requirements specifications to ensure that the requirements were interpreted correctly.
  • Manage requirements traceability information and track requirements status throughout the project.
  • Manage changes to baselined requirements through effective application of change control processes and tools.
  • Mentor business partners and IT team in requirements processes

We are seeking the following qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in business or equivalent experience
  • 10+ years of experience in business analysis across multiple functional areas. Retail Industry experience preferred.  Product Information Management (PIM) and Merchandising System experience a plus.
  • Comfortable interacting with stakeholders at all levels throughout the business and working within large, matrixed organizations.
  • Experience with enterprise commercial software implementations
  • Understanding of and experience working in an Agile environment
  • Experience using JIRA, SQL, Visio, Powerpoint and Excel
  • Ability to work effectively with offsite / offshore business or technology partners
  • Strong presentation and collaboration skills and can communicate all aspects of the job requirements, including the creation of formal documentation
  • Independent. Strong critical thinking, decision making, troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong work ethic and internal drive for results.  Strong planning, execution and multitasking skills and demonstrated ability to nimbly reprioritize and meet deadlines reliably.
