SUMMARY

The Sr. Inventory Planner (IP) is responsible for assessing, determining needed actions, executing the developed plan and follow-up facilitating the highest level of inventory availability to their assigned stores and regions.  The IP will partner with Category Managers and Inventory Replenishment, Store Planning and Design, and Visual Merchandising, but most closely will partner with the field leadership of assigned regions, up to and including RVP level.  The IP will serve as a field liaison on availability-related concerns from store assortment planning to Regional assortment planning, and will be responsible for continuous improvement and process development for all existing and new processes to support initiatives.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Assortment Management

  • Perform assortment review and analysis, effectively communicate findings and make recommendations to Category Managers and Market Managers to drive positive business results
    • Use store clustering to identify and address gaps in assortment
    • Use Customer Product Now requests as feedback to fine tune assortments
  • Identify trends within business to quickly take action on over-performing/under-performing products to best position the product within the AAP store hierarchy
    • Identify lost sales opportunities and trending
    • Identify store to store transfer opportunities and trending
    • Identify product coverage opportunities and trending
    • SKU assortment expansions based on market specific findings
  • Build collaborative partnerships with Category Managers and Market Managers to develop strategic plans that will drive business performance
    • Product Line Expansions/Conversions
    • Market Driven Availability Initiatives

      Financial Management

  • Understand, effectively communicate and advise business partners on the financial impact of decisions related from assortment upgrades to Market Driven Availability initiatives. 
  • Evaluate supply chain for non-working inventory opportunities and drive appropriate actions by business partners and track the resulting decision’s progress.  Includes identifying future opportunities and develop strategies to limit that exposure.
    • Overstocks from stores to DC
    • Inventory Reduction Strategies

      Communication / Collaborative Relationships

  • Maintain collaborative partnerships with Field Leadership and Market Managers
  • Develop relationships with Category Managers, Strategic Managers, and inventory team through active involvement in business decisions
  • Communicate directly with Store Managers, Hub Managers, Commercial Account Managers, District Managers responding to operational concerns as appropriate

Strong interpersonal and communication skills and ability to effectively present information and interact effectively across all levels of the organization; proven ability to cultivate relationships with key stakeholders across functions in order to achieve business/brand objectives and drive process improvement; experience in leading complex cross-functional teams

Working knowledge in Microsoft Office Software (MS Access, etc.), and job-specific computer programs including SQL, Oracle, Business Intelligence platforms

Demonstrated analytical ability and problem solving skills

Ability to work independently and with a high level of energy and initiative, and quickly adapt to various projects and changing priorities

Strong attention to detail, planning, and organizational skills

Ability to assume proactive role in process improvement task forces

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Undergraduate degree in Business, Economics, Math, or Statistics; and 2-3+ years business experience with emphasis in Inventory, Merchandising, or Merchandise Planning; or equivalent combination of education and experience

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

This position has no supervisory responsibilities. They will be responsible for overseeing the Market Driven Availability strategies that directly impact their assigned Regions.
