Job Description

The Data Governance Manager must have a good knowledge on the enterprise data governance framework and processes. This position will ensure that the Advance Auto Parts has the trusted and robust data standards, policies, metadata, and processes to support all data domains (Professional Customers, Retail Customers, Products, Suppliers, etc).

Responsible to identify & resolve the data quality issues which includes prioritization, process documentation, and serve as a subject matter expert for all data domain.

Manage the team which consists of data analysts & data stewards, and work very closely with the business team and IT staff to execute the data governance initiatives.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Other duties may be assigned.

  • Evaluate and drive data management processes (i.e., define best practices and processes to support efficiencies within product data management).
  • Manage the collection and definition of all data domain data features and functions across all cross-functional areas resulting in the complete accuracy and completeness of data.
  • Ensure that cross-functional business leaders have accurate all data domain information available when they need it, can access it, and understand it to make informed and reliable business decisions.
  • Develop reporting processes required by enterprise stakeholders.
  • Identify key metrics to define success and work closely with business leaders to refine them.
  • Lead the data governance council and work very closely with the domain and sub domain owners to fix the data issues and develop a remediation plan to prevent future data quality issues. 
  • Work closely with the data domain owners and manage the metadata in the data governance tool (Collibra DGC)
  • Establish/Manage the processes for governing the identification, collection, and use of corporate metadata, takes steps to assure metadata accuracy and validity.
  • Provide thought leadership and direction to the data stewards and data analysts.
  • Coordinate the procedures and program development of technical resources or vendors who support the systems used to manage data.
  • Performs all other duties and special assignments as assigned.

  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.  Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. 
  • Strong analytical skills required. Ability to develop and communicate proper data procedures internal and external to the team.  Ability to create actionable strategies for ingesting and exporting large amounts of data in a timely manner.
  • Demonstrated problem solving capabilities.  Ability to operate in a complex, rapidly changing environment while adhering to tight schedules and budgets. Demonstrated ability to balance multiple projects in varying degrees of implementation
  • Strong interpersonal skills, ability to interact effectively at all levels.  Proven track record of establishing strong relationships with internal and external customers in order to achieve business objectives and drive strategic change. Proven ability to influence others through facts and gain leadership support to drive new processes.
  • Working knowledge on the data profiling and data quality tools to expose and determine causes of data quality issues and write data quality rules.
  • Ability to multitask and meet aggressive deadlines efficiently and effectively
  • Exposure to Master Data Management (MDM) and have a strong understanding on what is master data vs non-master data.
  • Strong data skill with a hands-on experience in RDMBS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

The requirements listed are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

  • Bachelors or higher degree preferred in Management, Management Information Systems, Marketing, Finance, Communications, Statistics, or related field; and
  • 5-7 years of experience in data management
  • Minimum 2 years of related data quality or data governance experience or Equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • RDBMS working knowledge (Oracle, Teradata, SQL Server, etc.,)
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience with SQL (Structured Query Language)
  • Strong working knowledge to data governance platform (Informatica, Collibra, etc.)
  • Working knowledge with the Metadata management tools such as Collibra, Waterline, etc.,
  • Hands-on experience in using Data Quality tools such as IDQ, IBM Information Analyzer, etc.,
  • Experience in managing the data stewards in the past would be preferred skill to have

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

This position directly supervises Data Analyst & Data Stewards.
