This position will be directly accountable for software quality across all IT Systems at Advance Auto Parts. This person will be responsible for working closely with leaders in Development teams, Business teams and other cross functional teams to ensure minimal defects are experienced in production while keeping focus on continuous improvements, low cost of quality and low time to market.

Scope of work

  • Accountable for validating all IT releases and projects from QA standpoint, deployed across 5000+ stores, 42+ Distribution centers and 4+ Corporate offices. Owns and ensures no significant defects impact user experience while using innovation to control costs and time spent in testing.
  • Responsible for building protocols, processes, tools and systems to govern all Quality Assurance Services at Advance including for QA governance, test engineering, test management.
  • Accountable for competency development of all testing resources at Advance including building knowledge management frameworks and training, enablement for these teams.
  • Drives Application Transformation by
    • Developing automation and Artificial Intelligence powered strategies and directing their implementation focused towards improving end user experience by improving the application’s performance, stability and functionality.
    • Collaborating with PMO to ensure services and applications can be safely and reliably deployed into production as per schedule.
    • Be the gatekeeper for quality and detect quality risks early in project lifecycles. Ensure Advance IT has the right approach to validating large transformation initiatives.
    • Lead the drive to test automation and ensure at least 70% of key systems have high fidelity regression suites in 2020.
    • Focus on ensuring quality outcomes for areas such as Application Portfolio rationalization, Cloud Migration analysis, automation and self help

Main Responsibilities and Accountabilities

  • Responsible for planning, operating and managing the Quality Management Organization at Advance. This includes establishing and operating the governance framework for QA including for demand management, reporting, metrics management, risk management and more.
  • Accountable for establishing QA processes and tools that drive IT quality commitments to business. You and the QA organizations will be measured on defect slippage to production, schedule adherence, cost of quality and other SLAs, KPIs.
    • Define QA standards, strategy, processes and metrics including for agile, waterfall and DevOps.
  • Responsible for managing the QA organization and for competency development
    • Lead a team of experience managers and quality analysts to meet or exceed expectations on quality SLAs. Enable these teams based on defined roadmaps.
    • Work closely with a global QA Service Provider for validating projects. Track their performance and ensure remediating action is initiated as required.
  • Responsible for increasing test automation across Advance IT and drive the journey to extensive regression automation on key systems including Digital channels, Point of Sales, Supply Chain, Merchandizing, Data Analytics and more within 12 months.
  • Review test approach and plans for key transformation initiatives and deliver robust test strategies for large initiatives. This position drives quality on modernization programs and directly contributes to business experience at Advance.
  • Lead a team to improve the availability, scalability, latency of key systems at Advance via performance engineering services.
  • Validate proposals, estimations and test schedules for testing services on projects.
  • Foster teamwork and a spirit of collaboration amongst the internal QA teams as well as key Test Outsourcing (AO), Testing as a Service (SaaS) partners while conveying a sense of urgency and responsiveness to meet business needs.
  • Work closely with business and Development teams to ensure right processes are in place before new development is introduced into production
  • Partner closely with Development teams and PMO to ensure early engagement in new projects and setup firm exit criteria for Application Development to Application Support and Operations

Required Qualifications:

  • Minimum 13 years of IT experience with at least 3 years in a QA leadership role (Senior Project Manager for QA or QA Director). Ideal candidate has worked in automotive aftermarket domain and retail.
  • Proven experience with defining and deploying QA governance frameworks across at least two large organizations
  • This role requires deep understanding of development and automation.
    • At least five years of experience with .NET or Java including hands-on development experience.
    • At least three years of experience with managing automation teams with API Testing (SOAP UI or iTKO Lisa) or UI Automation Testing (Selenium, Oracle OATS, Tricentis Tosca or equivalents).
    • Ideal candidate demonstrates deep testing knowledge on at least one modern SaaS system (Software As A Service) such as Workday or Oracle Finance.
    • Candidate must have served as a Technical Architect / Technology Architect or similar role that is responsible for system architecture for at least two years. Must have proven experience working with UML and software design tools like Visio.
    • Candidate must have worked as a QA project manager on at least one major IT transformation program (ideally cloud transformation) in the past three years and have delivered test approach and strategy.
  • Experience must include proven experience operating and running a centralized QA organization for a large enterprise including
    • Metrics management and reporting to VPs, CxOs (including CIOs)
    • Development of proposals, test approaches, estimations.
    • Deliver QA and project plans with tools such as Microsoft Project.
    • Manage QA teams (set goals, perform appraisals, build competencies, help as needed in hiring and exit processes).
    • Propose innovative tools and solution to reduce cost of quality and improve QA outcomes for the program.
  • This job requires specialized knowledge of computer systems and IT architecture. Candidates must have at least a Master’s degree in Computer Sciences or Masters in Computer Applications / Management.
