Job Description

The Sr. Manager Visual Merchandising works cross functionally with Merchants, Inventory, Transportation, Operations Support, Asset Protection, Vendors, and Field Leadership Teams to manage all initiatives relating to the Visual Merchandising Team. The Sr. Manager leads the team in implementing best in class merchandising plans and strategies that are customer oriented, as well as produce maximum sales and profitability per allocated square foot. The Sr. Manager uses leadership, initiative, strategy development, and communication skills extensively to manage multiple processes and projects communicating effectively to multiple levels of the organization. The Sr. Manager manages annual budgeting processes and drives Visual Merchandising improvement projects that span multiple departments and teams. The Sr. Manager operates under minimal direction and serves as a mentor to less experienced managers.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Budgeting Planning/Forecasting -  Create, manage, and monitor the annual Planning Calendar transition workflow and $14.5M budget, ensuring cross functional teams and resources are aligned and successfully fulfill action steps.
    • Plan the calendar on a continuous basis throughout the year.
    • Forecast and prepare annual $1.5M-$2.5M
    • New and POG Reset Fixture
    • Design capital and expense budgets, ensuring appropriate allocation throughout the year.
    • Initiate and facilitate annual fixture cost reduction and sourcing opportunity reviews.
  • Merchandising - Lead the development of merchandising strategies, guidelines, and standards.
    • Gain leaders consensus on merchandising strategies, train the team on their use, and influence peers, partners in their use and execution.
    • Work with the Director of Space Planning Analytics in defining, designing, and project managing strategic environment initiatives.
    • Develop the annual in-store promotional product placement strategy.
    • Proactively identify, translate, test, measure, and deploy new merchandising trends in Advance’s retail environment.
    • Ensure the accurate and effective communication of merchandising changes to stores, capturing feedback for continuous improvement and tracking results.
  • Vendor Relationships/Negotiations - Continually review each fixture vendors performance, quality of product, and cost.
    • Negotiate process with fixture vendors driving out fixtures costs through quantity, quality, design improvements, timing, and competitor comparisons.
  • Process/System Development and Project Management - Drive cross departmental Merchandising Team process improvements resulting in team efficiencies, reduced rework, and improved in store implementation.
    • Manage the coordination and completion of strategic merchandising activities resulting in business expansions and contractions.
    • Recommend visual merchandising system tools and enhancements to improving the accuracy and timeliness of data feeds to inventory and store teams
    • In follow up to immediate issue resolution, put in place sustainable systems and process improvements that prevent issue recurrence and improve company results.

  • Proficient in the use of MS Office Products Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Access.
  • Project Experience in developing, leveraging, articulating, and enforcing merchandising standards, driving sales and profitability through employee efficient and shopper compelling environments. Complete understanding of the data processes and information flow within the Intactix and RGIS merchandising software systems; understanding of Intactix Space Planning and RGIS Store Planning modules and supporting software; ability to recognize system and process issues, as well as generate sustainable solutions.
  • Strong analytical skills required; ability to develop and communicate findings and recommendations, creating actionable strategies.
  • Ability to prioritize, delegate, and manage multiple projects simultaneously ensuring timely and accurate completion of each; outcome-focused and experienced in project management as a means to plan, track, communicate progress and ensure on time delivery of projects.
  • Comprehensive view of a centralized headquarters and its interconnections with Store Merchandising processes; ability to see an organization as an integrated whole, understanding how each component contributes to the achievement of organizational goals and objectives.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills; ability to present information and interact effectively across all levels of the organization; ability to cultivate relationships with key stakeholders across functions to achieve business objectives and drive strategic change; proven track record of establishing strong relationships and experience in leading complex cross-functional teams.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE Bachelors degree in Business Administration, Marketing/Merchandising, Design; and 5-7 years experience in Visual Merchandising (Fixture Design, Marketing, Retail Merchandising, Space Management), including experience leading visual merchandising teams (2-4 years in-store retail experience strongly preferred); or equivalent combination of education and experience

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES This position directly supervises 1-2 Managers, 4-10 Supervisors, Sr. Analysts, and Analysts.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS Certifications in Six Sigma and LEAN preferred JDA Intactix Expert Certification preferred.
