Advance Auto Parts, a leader in the automotive aftermarket, currently has an opening for a Tech Lead Data Engineer As a Tech Lead for Data Lake at Advance Auto Parts, you will have an opportunity to disrupt a $100B auto parts industry to bring better and faster solutions to customers. You will be expected to parse, wrangle and transform complex data and build. data products to drive actionable insights and help improve our company.  You will be part of an elite data management and analytics function to help the organization live its mission of Advancing a World in Motion. You will have the opportunity of building Data Lake, Advanced Analytics, Machine Learning platforms and more.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following.  Other duties may be assigned.

  • Familiarity with Hadoop, Hive, Spark, and SQL on Hadoop related technologies
  • Develop blueprints and technical playbooks for complex Big Data analytics solutions
  • Develop prototypes, technical proof of concepts and code with various solutions and convert platform architecture blueprints to real life working artifacts
  • Assist in conducting technical training and onboarding of new staff
  • Manage and Coach team members and assist with their work, including providing coaching, feedback and guidance on work performance;
  • Strong cloud experience - AWS, Redshift or Snowflake
  • Define, design, model, implement, and operate large, evolving, structured and unstructured datasets
  • Build robust systems and reusable code modules to solve problems across the team and organization with an eye on the long term maintenance and support of the application
  • Perform application testing and validation, programming, and documentation.
  • Work with the latest open source tools, libraries, platforms and languages to build data products enabling other analysts to explore and interact with large and complex data sets
  • Partner with Product Owners and cross functional teams in a collaborative and agile environment
  • Design rich data visualizations and interactive tools and solutions to communicate complex ideas to customers and company leaders
  • Collaborate across the enterprise to enable and share best practices and reusable and scalable tools and code for our analyst community
  • Establish forward looking Data and technology objectives and developing the strategies and actions for the team to achieve them

Position Requirements:

  • Minimum of 15 years of IT experience with 7 years working with Data Management, Business Intelligence, Architecture, Machine Learning or Data Analytics
  • 5+ years of leadership expertise with direct reports
  • At least 5 years of experience in application design, development or analysis
  • Experience and proficiency in one of Python, Java, Scala, or a similar programming language
  • Experience leading technical delivery teams, overseeing all technical requirements and deliverable
  • Define, design, model, implement, and operate large, evolving, structured and unstructured data-sets
  • Experience with Hadoop/Spark implementation, NoSQL technologies (Cassandra, MongoDB, Neo4j etc.).
  • Knowledge of Big Data Platforms and advanced analytics technologies (predictive as well as prescriptive – SAS, R, Python, Machine Learning etc.)
  • Experience developing Data warehouses hosted on MPP (massively parallel processing) architecture, distributed systems and analytics platforms
  • Cloud based Data and Analytics platform solutions – Amazon or any Cloud

Preferred Qualifications

  • Either a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, MIS, Bus Analytics or related required (with a 2nd degree in Business or Mathematics a plus); or a Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business, or Accounting (with a secondary degree in Comp Sci, MIS, Bus Analytics, etc. a plus) and strong track record of leveraging technology and programming capabilities;
  • Additional Degree or experience with Data Science or another related field
  • Experienced at managing a team of full-stack and data engineers
  • Experience with Cloud computing and/or DevOps
