Supervise all aspects of the daily operations of the vendor incentives accounting department, including account reconciliations, and period reporting based on the overall accounting policies and procedures prescribed in Advance Auto Parts.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES, RESPONSIBILITIES AND KEY SKILLS may include, but are not limited to the following.  Other duties may be assigned.

  • Provide analysis for Accounting management and business unit teams to determine appropriate trade discounts impact on the income statement along with trade discount receivables on a periodic basis
  • Perform analytical reviews and interpretation of financial data and provides understandable explanations to non-financial business partners.
  • Prepare journal entries and assigned account reconciliations on a period basis according to established schedule. Follow up with appropriate individuals for any needed corrections and prepares journal entries accordingly.
  • Assist in the preparation of detailed annual plans based on current year vendor incentives, purchase trends and annual agreements.
  • Review purchase projections to ensure accurate revenue recognition, compare future projections to historical purchase volumes as well as current year-to-date activity, and inquire with Merchandising team of any variables unknown to Accounting
  • Prepare and maintain schedules and supporting documentation needed for management, internal and external reporting, internal and external auditors, and SOX requirements.
  • Review EDI invoices to ensure vendor funding is collected as specified in vendor contracts.
  • Project future period earnings based on allowances in contracts and established revenue recognition methods
  • Assist in quarterly reviews/year-end audits with internal, external auditors.
  • Recommend and implement enhanced internal control procedures over vendor incentive accounting.
  • Help to ensure period close runs smoothly and according to schedules.
  • Communicate timely about Accounting policy and procedures and any process or policy changes.
  • Attract, develop and retain quality team members.
  • Train and/or ensuring adequate training plan is developed and adhered to of new and existing employees.
  • Provide timely communications with department on company policies and procedures, departmental policies and procedures as well as any personnel issues, including informal feedback as well as annual performance reviews. 
  • Assign and monitor the results of projects, including developmental follow-up to ensure team members are excelling and meeting job responsibilities.

  • Must be able to read, analyze, interpret and comprehend common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. 
  • Must be able to communicate effectively in both an oral and written manner to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies or members of the business community.
  • Must be able to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to top management, external department heads, customers, clients and other employees. 


Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university and five to seven years related experience and/or training including 3 years of management experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.


The manager should carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems


CPA Preferred.
