Job Description

The Visual Merchandising Specialist  is responsible for collaborating with merchants, inventory, and pricing to develop and execute merchandising strategies that drive incremental sales and gross margin for Advance Auto Parts. The Visual Merchandising Specialist will work as an expert in analyzing return on space at a macro (category/store) and micro (sku/shelf) level, managing timelines and upholding Advance Auto Parts merchandising guidelines. This role is also responsible for delivering accurate store/planogram/SKU relationships to maximize efficient inventory replenishment principles. The position requires management of the Off-shelf placement program and 3rd party merchandising.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Merchandising Systems (20%): Produce and distribute error-free, effectively merchandised, and profitable Planograms with clear, concise instructions through advanced understanding of Space Planning and Planogram systems. Research and drive out new processes and analysis. Demonstrate ability to create new reports within IKB or in Access tailored to a specific business objective. Be able to identify merchandising trends (i.e., fixture, product, store) and translate into action.
  • Analysis (30%): Identify SKU and category opportunities based on Return on Space performance. Ability to identify opportunitiesrisks in the business and articulate data to leadership in order to maximize business. Ability to view business globally- determine how performance in one business impacts the chain. Ability to translate individual business successes to create other business opportunities across the team. Analyze and articulate key differentiators between Advance Auto Parts and other retailers through competitive shopping exercises.
  • Process (10%): Identify, research, create and teach-out new process that drive efficiencies for the team and results for the company. Adhere to current processes and/or propose alternative approaches on processes to leadership and Visual team. Uphold Visual Merchandising guidelines and best practices when mocking up POGs at Model Store. Understand, follow, and scorecard Planning Calendar milestones accordingly.
  • Communication (15%): Communicate effectively and professionally to all levels of the organization. Raise awareness to missed or at risk milestones and clear roadblocks with leadership when resolving an issue. Support Advance Auto Parts stores by (1) clearly articulating merchandising instructions accurately and (2) responding to store requests with resolution within 24 hours.
  • IOM Relationships (10%): Establish and develop relationships with merchants, inventory, and pricing teams. Be a vocal, strategic partner to the IOM and Visual teams through team meetings and Category Planning process. Build trust by proactively providing credible and value added support. Special Projects Leadership (10%): Work on special projects that have an impact on the entire Visual Merchandising Team and that provide the company with the benefits of improved performance. Responsible for a key process/organizational activity within the Visual Merchandising team. (Ex: OSP)

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Strong attention to detail, planning and organizational skills
  • Utilize merchandising guidelines effectively with an eye for aesthetics
  • Demonstrated analytical and problem solving skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Advanced PC skills, systems aptitude and experience
  • Retail experience or interest
  • Ability to work independently and with a high level of energy and initiative
  • Ability to interface with all levels of management
  • Assertive and flexible
  • Ability to regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds

DESIRED REQUIREMENTS

  • JDA Intactix and/or Space Management experience preferred
  • Merchandising, Merchandise Planning, or Retail experience
  • Advance Auto Parts systems aptitude and experience

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, or Design; and

1 – 2 years retail experience or 1 – 2 years Project Management experience; or

Equivalent combination of education and experience.
