Under general supervision, and according to established policies and procedures, the Desktop Engineer position provides enterprise clients technical leadership in the architecture, design and implementation of desktop solutions and related technologies. Responsible for the company’s desktop and mobile computing environment and for ensuring the hardware and software are maintained to provide the best experience to all end users. Responsible for management of all desktop, laptop and mobile computing systems, including PC standard image creation and maintenance, distribution of applications, virus and patch management, and participation and leadership in software evaluation and testing.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the design and implementation of solutions for client technologies (e.g. Microsoft Windows 10, Office 2016, Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, Lenovo, Apple hardware, etc.).
  • Serve as escalation support and provide onsite and remote (email, voice, chat and possible external visits) customer support for all network-based, computer-based, and mobile device-based applications and hardware offered by the company or enabled by the company, such as personal mobile devices and computers used to access company resources.
  • Provide Level II support for all data center and desktop environments in a 24/7/365 environment.
  • Maintain configuration documents for every workstation device managed.
  • Develop detailed documentation on software configurations, deployment processes, packaging procedures, imaging process, test scripts and other desktop and application related documentation.
  • Management and deployment of mobile device units (TC7500, TC8000 and WT6000)
  • Management and deployment of printers (HP M600 series, Brother HL-L6400DW, Zebra 105SL+ and Zebra QLn420).
  • Enforce all procedures as they relate to technical change control and patch management and core systems monitoring for company computing units.
  • Test new software, software upgrades, and create test scripts.
  • Develop and maintain end user experience using Active Directory Group Policies.
  • Use of company ticketing system to process, update, and resolve incoming service and change requests.
  • Work with the IT Security Manager to protect desktop and laptop systems from intentional or inadvertent harm including virus, patch and physical security management.
  • Work to achieve a balance between system performance and stability and end-user convenience, ergonomics and usability.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:

  • Mastery of computer networking, application interoperability, and operating system concepts.
  • Knowledge of Air Watch MDM desirable.
  • Experience with enterprise client software management administration (Imaging Tools)
  • Knowledge of desktop management suite (Big Fix) desirable.
  • Experience with Zebra StageNow mobile device management tool for staging and deployment of Android mobile devices.
  • Understand using enterprise tools to manage Brother and Zebra wireless printers (Brother Admin Pro and ZebraNet Bridge Enterprise)
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in carrying out sensitive and time-critical projects.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate technical concepts to technical and non-technical users.
  • Must be a team-oriented person who can share information, goals, opportunities, successes and failures with the appropriate parties.
  • Solid knowledge with PC hardware

Education and Experience:

  • Minimum 2 years of IT experience focused on desktop and mobile system management.
  • Experience in working with patch management using IBM BigFix or similar third party patch management tools.
  • Windows 10 and OS X experience required, Microsoft Office 2016 Support experience preferred.
  • Project Management experience preferred.
  • Experience in application packaging tools.
  • Experience in desktop imaging using Microsoft Deployment Tool.
  • Experience of supporting Windows 7/10/OS X operating systems on Dell, Lenovo, and Apple hardware.
  • Experience supporting virtual desktop environments including VMware and Microsoft Remote Desktop Services.
